Paul Nugent of the Southeast Connecticut World Affairs Council (SECWAC) will help us understand Ireland’s journey since gaining independence from the United Kingdom—tracing the social, economic, and political changes that have shaped the nation into what it is today.

About Paul Nugent: Paul was born and raised in Ireland before moving to the United States in 1989 to pursue a career in biomedical research. He has long maintained a strong interest in Irish history and current affairs, as well as U.S. foreign policy, diplomatic history, international relations, and evolutionary biology. Paul current serves as Executive Director and Chairman of the Southeast Connecticut World Affairs Council (SECWAC), a nonprofit, all volunteer chapter of the World Affairs Councils of America. He is also a member of the Society for Historians of Ameircan Foreign Relations (SHAFR). He lives with his wife in Old Saybrook.
