Adventure Begins: Children’s July Activities!

Adventure Begins at Your Library!
Pick up your Adventure Begins at Your Library game board on or after June 12!

Each completed activity earns a raffle ticket – use your tickets for a chance to win prizes. Complete the whole board and automatically win a prize. All tickets must be submitted by August 15, 2024.

July Children’s Summer Adventure Programs and Events:

Monday, July 1st at 2:00pm – Family Garden Time
July 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd we will gather in the garden for a fun activity and a chance to explore the library’s garden!
No registration required.

Tuesday, July 2nd at 10:30am – Adventure in Art Story Time Inspired by Eric Carle
Adventures in Art Story Time inspired by Eric Carle. Join Miss Meg for a story featuring a different artist’s work each Tuesday in July at 10:30am. Then try your hand at an art project inspired by their work!
Registration required.

Wednesday, July 3rd at 10:30am – Movement Class for Kids
Join Miss Colleen from Dance Dynamics Studios in Old Saybrook for a movement class! Recommended for ages 3-8.
No registration required.

Monday, July 8th at 2:00pm – Family Garden Time
July 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd we will gather in the garden for a fun activity and a chance to explore the library’s garden!
No registration required.

Monday, July 8th before 5:30pm – Stuffed Animal Sleepover!
Let your favorite stuffed animal spend the night in the library! Drop off your friend anytime before 5:30pm on Monday and pick them up after 12pm on Tuesday.
No registration required.

Tuesday, July 9th at 10:30am – Adventure in Art Story Time Inspired by Mo Willems

Tuesday, July 9th at 2:00pm – Virtual Author Talk with Kate DiCamillo
Join us for a visit to Deckawoo Drive with everyone’s favorite adventure loving pig, Mercy Watson! Newbery Medal winning author Kate DiCamillo will be sharing the stories behind the creation of her early chapter book series, the original Mercy Watson, and the follow up series, Tales from Deckawoo Drive. We will also be celebrating the publication of the final book in the Mercy Watson series!

Thursday, July 11th at 11:00am – Phoebe’s Wee Readers
Join Miss Meg for stories and songs, followed by free play! Open to infants and toddlers ages 3 and under.

Friday, July 12th at 2:00pm – Michele Urban Music
Enjoy the music of Michele Urban. Sing and dance with family and friends!
No registration required.

Saturday, July 13th, All Day – LEGO Day
Come build with our LEGO collection. Challenges will be available, but we love to see what you create from your imagination!
No registration required.

Tuesday, July 16th at 2:00pm – Virtual Author Talk with Max Brallier
Would you survive a zombie apocalypse? Join us to talk with New York Times bestselling author Max Brallier about The Last Kids on Earth, both the book series and the animated series on Netflix. In this virtual event, Max will share how he came up with the different monsters and villains as well as the unique ways that Jack and his friends figure out to defeat them.

Wednesday, July 17th at 3:00pm – Pokemon Day
Calling all Pokemon Trainers, drop in for all things Pokemon. Come trade cards with fellow trainers, pokemon themed crafts, and more. Recommended for kids in grades 1-5.

Olympics Adventure Week!

Monday, July 29th at 3:00pm – Reading Marathon!
Reading Marathon! Pick a book or several and settle in for a fun reading event in the Community Room. Participants are welcome to bring blankets and pillows or whatever else they need to get cozy for this fun chance to read quietly with friends! 
No registration required.

Meigs Point will present an Olympic program: Wide World of Animals! Come ready to run and jump in a variety of Olympic-style events. Note: there are no live animals at this program.

Thursday, July 31st at 2:00pm – Virtual Author Talk with Dan Santat
Join this year’s winner of the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, Dan Santat, as he inspires tweens and teens to tell their own stories through graphic novels. His winning book, A First Time for Everything, is a graphic memoir based on his own awkward middle school years and the trip to Europe that changed his life.
